OCD Symptoms and Support
Obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD, can cause unwanted thoughts, strong worries, or fears that feel hard to ignore. A person may feel the need to repeat certain actions to feel safe or less anxious. This can include checking things again and again, counting, cleaning, arranging items, asking for reassurance, or feeling that something must be done in a very specific way. These thoughts and actions can take a lot of time and may make daily life stressful for the client and their family. OCD is not the person’s fault, and support can make a real difference. Therapy can help clients understand how OCD works, face fears in small and safe steps, reduce repeated behaviors, and learn healthier ways to respond to anxious thoughts. Families can also learn how to give support without increasing the cycle of worry.
